At the January PPCUG meeting, a recommendation was made to protect yourself from the .wmf exploit in e-mails be setting up your e-mail client to view the messages in plain text. Unfortunately, we weren't able to demonstrate that on the spot, so here is the answer:
Outlook Express: On the Menu Bar, click on Tools then Options. In the Options dialog, click on the Read tab and the 4th option down is "Read all messages in plain Text". Select that option and click on the Apply button; then close that dialog.
Outlook: For Outlook 2002, SP1, there is a regisry hack that is available. For other, earlier versions, there does not seem to be a way to make this happen. There certainly is no normal user-friendly setting to display all mail as plain text. If you want the information for version 2002 with SP1, contact Alan Baker 484-4797 and he will send you the information. (PPCUG does not typically recommend that its members make changes to the Windows Registry.)
